I really enjoyed this week’s project which involved finger painting because I got to paint without having to worry about creating something which I don’t do very often. It was hard at first wrapping my mind around the idea of just doing a free painting without having to worry about the outcome because often times we are told that things always have to be a certain way in order to be correct. At first, I noticed myself feeling pressured because I wanted to create shapes and figures so bad as I had a blank white sheet of paper in front of me and I had no idea as to how I was going to fill it all up. This was a challenge until I began adding more colors and giving it that free vibe. The experience of painting with no subject overall was relaxing because I got to sit down on the floor and paint without being worried about what my painting would look like at the end. I didn’t have to worry about having colors that would coordinate which was also relieving . Using multiple colors and getting them all over my fingers also made the experience fun. At the end I was actually pleased with my painting not because it was “beautiful” but because it was simply mine and I had enjoyed creating it. Finger painting reminded me a lot about art pieces I had seen before and it made me understand that there is more to art paintings than appearances.
