What did you think of the A-B-C format? I found the A-B-C format very well organized because it gave us a brief idea at the beginning of the semester about exactly what we were going to be working on. I also like how the course was divided in 3 because it made the semester go by faster and made it a lot funner.
What did you think of the 4 Messy Hands activities? (Plaster Casting, Sketching in the Garden, Graffiti Writing & Finger Painting) I think the 4 messy hands activities were honestly the best part of the class because it gave us a chance to create art instead of just talk about it. Also it gave us the opportunity to do fun projects that we usually aren’t asked to do.
What did you think of the 4 Life Design activities? (Design Thinking, ePortfolio, Environmental Portrait, vlog) The 4 life design activities were actually very helpful because they made me think about things that i dont usually think about when thinking about the future but that are getting near for me to decide on.
What did you think of the Student Choice & One More activities? The student choice and one more activities helped us as students realize that there are multiple ways of doing something rather than just one.
What did you think of visiting the SOA Galleries, having Conversations with SOA Artists, and blogging about them? I found this part of the course extremely interesting because i got to visit and meet new people i didnt think I would. These activities also helped me create experiences that will be useful for my future at csulb.
What did you think of using the class website, glenn.zucman.com/i2va, plus your own websites, instead of BeachBoard? This was a very unique way of leading the work that was due for class. I found it challenging at first because i had never created a website before but i am glad that I did.
What did you think of using WordPress for your blog? Creating my own blog was honestly amazing because I got to post my unique art projects there and i also got to see the work that my classmates had done.
What did you think of using Wix for your ePortfolio? Using Wix and learning how to use it was very important to me as a student because it is a tool i can continue to use to promote whatever it is i decide to do.
What did you think of the guest speakers? (Internships, Study Abroad, etc) I think the guest speakers were very interesting because we as students always learn something from them. They provide alot of new information that we may not know.
What did you think of the times in class when we took time to meet new classmates? How many Art110 peeps did you know before the class started? How many do you know now? I and glad that even though it was a huge class professor Zucman took the time to introduce us to one another because it made us meet new people and feel comfortable while we were in class. Before the class started I knew one person from the entire class and by now I have met around 10 new people.
What did you think about having a class with no tests? I don’t just mean “was it cool to not have to take any,” but students use tests to guide their study and participation in a class. Students tend to learn what’s on the test, and to not learn anything that isn’t. Did not having exams make it harder to focus or find importance and relevance in the class? Having a class with no tests was different but still very challenging having to adapt our mind to this idea. As students we are always so worried about taking notes and memorizing information to be prepared for an exam that at times we forget to process the information which is the most important part. Even though in this course we didn’t have any test I feel as I I learned a lot more than I usually do in class that do because I had more time to think and process the important aspects of the class.
Any other thoughts? Overall i am glad i took this course because the way the course is taught and divided is a way in which us as students take a lot from it. We not only get time to think and express our ideas during lecture but we also get time to experience art by participating in hands on projects that provided us with unique experiences.
